Google Drive 101- What is the cloud anyway?

Standard

Now that you all have successfully migrated away from P drive it’s time for Google school.  Between now and the December break at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays a series of sessions will be offered.  In order to make informed decisions about how and where you use information by way of Google products and how you use Google Apps in the classroom without being schooled by Google’s trickiness please attend any or all sessions face to face or follow the instructions yourself online (yes you can take an online course:)).

The first session starts today in room 110 at lunchtime and will be repeated on Thursday.

How do I set up Google Drive?

Setting up Google Drive

How do I backup OneNote once my P drive is gone?

Backing up OneNote to Google Drive

How do I convert word documents to google documents and why would I want to (or not want to)?

Google Drive Conversion – the basics

I’ve saved a document in Google Drive on my tablet, why doesn’t it appear on Google Drive on the class desktop?

  1. Are you signed into each Google Drive folder with your zis account?
  2. Have you allowed enough time for syncing to take place? When putting a document in your Google Drive folder (not uploading through the web) the document has to sync to the web first.  Once the document is synced to the web you can access it through your web browser (Chrome).  If you would like to access it on your Google Drive folder on another computer, you must allow time for the Drive folder to sync before the document is available.
  3. When leaving a classroom always log off the desktop computers fully.  If the next person is logged on at the same time as you (you are still logged on and just clicked “Switched User”), the next person will not be able to sync with their Google Drive.

Overview of P Drive to Google Drive

Standard

Many of you have already set up Google Drive and are using it in your courses.  All students will set up Google Drive this week during GAP time, so if you have not setup your own Google Drive watch your students so you have a little prior knowledge about the process.

When you are ready to setup your Google Drive please follow these instructions either on your own or ask us for help.  Starting in October your P drive will no longer be available.

Share Audio Files w/ Out Classwork Using Sound Cloud

Standard

This web tool just might be the answer to those of you pulling your hair out over audio files in classwork.  Audio tracks can be recorded on ones tablet or a smartphone and unloaded directly to Soundcloud, posted to an online space (i.e. a blog) or shared via e-mail.  Claudia and Verena are testing it out as we speak with their German III classes.  The free version of SoundCloud allows the user to have up to two hours of recording stored for free.
