multitasking

We all know the myths of multitasking and new realities of overload.  Daniel Goldman author of The Hidden Driver of Excellence: Focus and The Triple Focus, and Daniel Levitin author of Organized Minds, Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload both offer a variety of solutions that we can look to for help.

Ainsley and I both had the pleasure of hearing both of these individuals present this past weekend.  Here are two similar lectures they have given that cover much of what we heard that offer practical, powerful advice on navigating our digitized world:

Math and Science Learning MMO Style

Standard

We all know that many of our students are highly motivated by videos games, particularly massive multimedia online (MMO) style games.  MIT and their partners have created this style of game aimed at high school biology and math called Radix.

The Radix Endeavor is a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) for STEM learning (science, technology, engineering and math) in middle and high school. A MMOG is a a 2- or 3-D graphical, simulated world played online where individuals take on a digital character, or avatar, that they use to represent themselves in this virtual space. They can interact with the designed environment in which activities take place, and also with other individuals’ avatars or non-player avatars that are part of the narrative.

The game covers the following topics:

  • Biology-Genetics, Ecosystems, Evolution, Human Body Systems
  • Mathematics-Algebra, Geometry, Statistics
