Citizenship in a Highly Digitized World

Page

All students and faculty are encouraged to use technology at the ZIS Upper School by following the Responsible Use Policy located within the Upper School Handbook (pg 21-22) and the School Owned Device Contract that outlines four main concepts:

  •  Balancing digital time with “unplugged” time
  • Learning from and with technology
  • Respectful digital action
  • Protecting self and others from negative digital situations

Learning opportunities are endless when it comes to digital citizenship.  Faculty constantly engage students in “teachable moments” surrounding the topic of digital citizenship, as well as advisory and specific class activities such as the ones listed below:

  • RE-boot camp at the beginning of the school year
  • Tablet Road Checks x3 a year in the fall, winter and spring
  • Badges as part of professional development and in advisory
  • Grade level presentations regarding appropriate communication such as Gr. 9 sexting, Gr. 10 Swiss Law (including visits from Mr.
  • Shaw from the Canton Zurich police department)
  • Student developed smart phone etiquette tips
  • Grade 12 LinkedIn college usage
